Short Slumber
By Augustine Onyealisi

On a rhapsody of thoughts
During a daytime slumber,
The sails of my mind were pulled to taut
Towards a recall from times younger,
Thoughts wandered along happily at a trot
And I became once again a toddler,
Innocent joys still in my court.

I was in a race with two little friends
Under a grove of mango trees,
Fat Benny and I were chasing after Fred
In a mock contest between us three,
We ran, panting with skinny Fred ahead.

Then suddenly, like a prick of conscience,
My joy ride was replaced with reality
And my ego again got hold of its essence,
I came back to our world of uncertainties!
